Timberline Knolls Recovery Center Review
Timberline Knolls is a Chicago-based private residential treatment center for women designed to assist women with a variety of issues, including alcohol and substance abuse, eating disorders, mood disorders and emotional trauma. Medical detoxification is also provided by carefully trained staff. Timberline Knolls is housed in a 43-acre complex in the Lemont suburb.
Treatment and Assessment
Every treatment plan us carefully planned and crafted individually for the women who are admitted. Every woman is assessed after her admittance to best determine her needs and the best approach to handle her unique situation and personality.
Timberline Knolls operates on the belief that the best way to approach any treatment or therapy is holistically. Therefore, the approach integrates this holistic outlook on recovery into all of their treatments. These treatments include following a 12-step plan, individual counseling as well as group and family therapy. Depending on the needs of the client, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may also be incorporated.
In addition to the more traditional therapies, holistic and creatively engaging therapies are also offered in concert. These therapies are more experimental in nature and may not work for everyone, but it has been demonstrated that practicing art can effect positive changes. Thus, art and dance therapies are offered. Yoga and massage therapies are provided as a physical way to remove stress. Equine therapy is well-suited for those with a deep attachment to animals. Faith-based recovery treatments are provided for those with deep spiritual or religious needs, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be used to help clients deal with traumas from their past.
Timberline Knolls works in conjunction with the Illinois State Board of Education to provide the Timberline Knolls Academy to continue the academic instruction for our younger patients.
Timberline Knolls has a large and qualified staff which includes a 24-hour team of nurses. Additional staff members include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, expressive therapists and dietitians. All of the staff are licensed and registered with their appropriate boards. The teachers employed at the Academy all have Master’s degrees and are trained to work as behavioral specialists as well as academicians.
Accommodations and Amenities
The architecture and buildings that populate the facilities and campus are all masterfully restored structures from the 19th century. Private residential quarters are provided along with the clinics and other offices. Most of our clients share a bedroom with two or three other clients, dorm style. The campus is beautifully landscaped with lakes and ponds, trees, areas set aside for recreation and an arts studio. All meals are shared together at a communal kitchen.
What Alumni Say
While it is nearly impossible for all former clients to give a glowing recommendation of any service for a wide variety of reasons, the majority of former clients surveyed by Rehabs.com rated the program highly, praising the accommodations, support of the staff, cleanliness of the facilities and the variety of counseling opportunities present.
One client named B.J spoke of the facility’s holistic approach this way: “A wide variety of treatment types is available (individual counseling, group sessions, art therapy, DBT, etc.) and the entire community of Timberline Knolls embraces every individual.”
Another woman named J.M. said, “I loved that it was all girls and that they treated multiple issues not just substance abuse. I made amazing friendships and got to work on all the issues in my life,” she wrote in her Rehabs.com survey.
Vanessa appreciated how seriously Timberline Knolls treated her situation. “The fact that Timberline Knolls does NOT focus on extracurricular or leisure activities is a strength in my opinion. You're there for treatment, not relaxation. There are chances to go on outings and definitely down times with fun activities available, but it's not a big part of the schedule. You have to go to Timberline Knolls ready to work, not relax.”
What Friends and Family Say
Those whose loved ones were treated by Timberline Knolls also spoke highly of the facility for its inclusion of family participation. One reviewer called the program “top notch,” and another approved of its family therapy sessions for including everyone.
