Starlite Recovery Center Review

Located a mere 60 minutes from San Antonio, Starlite Recovery Center is surrounded by the familiar scenery of Texas hill country – rugged hills, wild flowers, yucca, cedar scrub, prickly pear cacti, and distinguished oak trees. When you choose this setting for your treatment, you can find the beauty you have on the inside while surrounded by one of the most beautiful landscapes Mother Nature has to offer.

Starlite Recovery Center provides top notch residential treatment services for adults and young adults, as well as a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The facility has been operating for more than three decades and is the oldest freestanding drug rehab center in Texas.

The staff is driven by the mission to overcome the challenge of chemical dependency, a potentially fatal disease that affects people from all walks of life.

Accommodations and Food

There is a 99-bed capacity of the adult residential program at Starlite. A Southwest motif can be found in the gender-specific rooms that are shared by residents. Each room has a roomy bathroom, two twin beds adorned with wooden headboards as well as a convenient desk, lamp, and a comfortable chair. A spacious bathroom

The Starlite Café is like entering a time machine in the best sense of the concept, as it has the look of a 1950s style diner. Meals are cooked by a private chef who is prepared to meet the dietary demands of our unique patients, including vegetarians and vegans, those on heart-healthy diets, and people with special needs. A convenient juice bar is found in the dining room.

As the most important meal of the day, breakfast gets the treatment it deserves at Starlite, with a typical meal including eggs, bacon or sausage, toast, and oatmeal. A broad range of cold cereals, fresh fruit, and other goodies are offered for those who desire something on the lighter side.

Lunch and dinner both offer a fully stocked salad bar and choice of soup, serving as the appetizer for hearty American and Tex-Mex cuisine. Other options are available for those with special dietary requirements.

Treatment and Staff

A treatment plan tailored to the individual patient will include weekly treatments such as individual therapy, group sessions, and 12-step meetings. Group sessions will cover issues such as interpersonal communication, anger resolution, and other pertinent life skills.

The 12-steps are a crucial part of the treatment regiments at Starlite. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings are held on-site and in the local community. Additionally, “Big Book” study meetings are offered, and residents are strongly encouraged to get through the first five steps of the program before they leave Starlite.

Residents who are receiving detox services are encouraged to attend weekly therapy meetings as long as they are physically equipped to do so. EMDR and dual diagnosis support is available onsite, and medication-assisted treatment is available.

Starlite staff includes a:

  • Medical director
  • Behavioral health specialist
  • Medical doctor
  • Director of nursing
  • Thereapists
  • Case workers
  • Recreational director

Pay phone usage is limited in order to keep the focus on treatment, and cell phones are not allowed on the premises. Speaking of aftercare, it includes online support groups and alumni meetings. Alumni coordinators contribute greatly to the sense of family and community that patients experience during and after treatment.

Intensive outpatient services are available. This consists of weekly group therapy, 12-step meetings, and sponsor work. PHP and IOP are also provided for clients who are unable to stay in rehab overnight.

Extras

A Christian treatment program is available for those who are helped by a faith-based approach to recovery.

There is a traditional fitness area as well as available activities such as equine therapy, a ropes course, sand volleyball, swimming, gym workouts, golf and on-campus movie nights. Young adult males can participate in the “Neoterics” program, combining outdoor recreational sports such as kayaking and fishing with more traditional treatment methods.

Families are encouraged through face-to-face family sessions and phone calls that include the patient and therapists.
