Duffy's Rehab Napa Valley Review

Duffy's Napa Valley Offers A Beautiful Setting and Effective Recovery. When a loved one is battling a substance abuse addiction, the setting for treatment can be almost as important as the treatment itself. That is why recovering alcoholic Gene Duffy bought a Calistoga, California hot springs resort in 1967 and created it into Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab. The 18 acre setting near the Napa River provides an ideal setting for facing challenges and forging an inspired path forward.

Duffy's three impatient programs and aftercare offerings address the full continuum of substance abuse issues, including detox. Our co-ed facility embraces everyone, from 18 to 80 years old.

Accommodations at Duffy's

Duffy's ranch-style main building houses women, while men are situated in separate buildings. Up to 55 residential clients can be accommodated at a time. Rooms are dorm-style with two clients per room, twin beds, armoire, dressers and a private patio for each room. Private rooms in special villas are available for those interested in more privacy. They offer a swimming pool, living rooms and each has a kitchenette.

Duffy's Napa Valley is a firm believer that a successful recovery includes good nutrition. A private chef is on staff to prepare four meals a day, including a nightly snack. The balanced meals include salad, a main course with vegetables, soup options and desert. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available.

Staff and Treatment Plans

The admission process at Duffy's is efficient and only takes about an hour. It includes meeting with a doctor as needed, a review of medical history, drug and alcohol screening, completing paperwork and making financial arrangements.

In some cases, detox is necessary. When used, it lasts up to seven days and cost anywhere from $800 to $3000. Duffy's doesn't want recovery to be harder than necessary so uses Vivitrol or Suboxone for withdrawal symptoms from alcohol or opiates. It is important to note though that Duffy's is not a medical facility. A local doctor is contracted to provide daily medical services, supplemented with around-the-clock client monitoring by staff members.

Because each client's situation is different, each has an individualized treatment plan. Inpatient care can be as short as one month and as long as three months. A 12-step approach is used, along with group therapy on a daily basis, ongoing education, individual therapy two times a week, relapse prevention measures and daily AA or NA meetings right on the premises at Duffy's. Meeting topics range from how to manage anger to peer support and studying the Big Book.

Clients at Duffy's are not offered dual diagnosis support but they are free to discuss co-occurring disorders during one-on-one sessions. The on-site doctor can also prescribe prescription refills. Recovery education offered at Duffy's teaches clients about their disease through the 12-step point of view. Clients are expected to complete at least the first three steps during their inpatient stay.

Duffy's has a staff of 20, including seven Master’s-level CDACs. technicians, support and admin staff.

Extra Perks

When you arrive at Duffy's, you arrive in style. Out-of-state clients can be picked up and dropped off at the nearest airport in a limousine for an additional fee.

Clients are also allowed to get out into the community. Once a week, a free Shopper’s Bus takes anyone interested into town.

After treatment is completed, aftercare is provided free of charge for up to a year.

The Reviews:

When reading reviews online about Duffy’s Rehab, we found a lot of positive reviews on Google+ from the amazing staff to the food being “incredible”. An anonymous user said, “’Saved my life. Thank you Duffy’s”. The staff members are brought up even in negative reviews, like this one we found on Yelp by Aaron, “Facility itself is very old and outdated...  Management and Nursing staff are wonderful and clearly care about their patients.”

Most of the negatives that we viewed were on Yelp and not any other review sites.  In large part, these negative reviews were about the financial piece of recovery.

Give Duffy's a Try

While Duffy's offers an effective treatment system and a beautiful location, it may not be for everyone. Specialized treatment for those with co-occurring disorders is not available here and those who put a priority on a facility with a gym or exercise component of treatment cannot be accommodated. For those who want an idyllic setting to rest, meditate and recover though, Duffy’s Napa Valley is the ideal location.
