What To Expect At Cocaine Rehab

So, you’ve decided to get treatment for cocaine addiction; it’s not the end of the world. But it is a whole lot of hard work that will definitely get uncomfortable at some point. The first part of your treatment involves a detox period which is pretty much the hard part.

Within the first 24 hours of quitting, it is normal to experience certain withdrawal symptoms. For instance, you could get moody, angry, tired and even have a few suicidal thoughts cross your mind. The last part is why it’s better to do this at a facility, such as ours, with staff trained to handle this type of behaviour.

Another reason it’s important to be in the right environment during this drug rehab stage is that the detox on its own is not enough. Every addict needs counselling coupled with a range of psychological exercises. All this is necessary because strengthening the mental will is just as important as staying clean.

How to Combat Cocaine Addiction With Therapy

Therapy for AddictionIt’s been established that detox on its own is not enough to keep this addiction at bay. That’s why there are so many cases involving relapses; there’s not enough work done on the mind. To ensure that you or your loved one have a fighting chance when it comes to staying sober, there’s an array of treatment options to be explored.

Once you’re integrated into our cocaine rehab program, you’ll definitely find treatment services that’ll work for you. Some of these are Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), hypnosis, meditation, art therapy, support groups such as cocaine anonymous and narcotics anonymous, 12-step work and other forms of relapse-prevention aftercare programs. This is just a cross-section of programs that help to keep at-risk individuals in check even long after they leave our facilities.

Why Do People Take Cocaine?

Before deciding to kick this addiction, it’s vital to know why getting hooked on this drug is so easy. In a nutshell, this drug creates a heightened sense of euphoria. No one can dispute that life is hard, and for some people, that feeling of euphoria is a getaway. But, the price here is a bit too high, especially in the long run.

This drug inhibits the recycling of dopamine (a hormone that regulates happiness) in the brain. Since cocaine causes the production of this hormone to spike, at some point, the brain solely depends on the drug as an indicator to release dopamine.

When you factor intolerance, it’s a different ball game. Users are bound to get more dependent on the drug as their tolerance increases and will need stronger doses to achieve the same level of euphoria. From this point, it’s a vicious cycle, cocaine abuse is already inevitable, and the withdrawal symptoms will be brutal.

Why Cocaine Abuse is Dangerous?

It’s seemingly harmless if you just try a line on a night out with some friends, but it’s a slippery slope after that. The fact that it is a highly addictive substance barely scratches the surface when it comes to what cocaine can do to your body. It all starts in the brain, where the drug plays with the area that dispenses dopamine and serotonin. This is dangerous because these two hormones are in charge of your mood and the feeling of happiness.

Once the drug is introduced the production of these hormones will be on the fritz. But, here’s the catch, soon enough your brain will start depending on cocaine to trigger the release of these hormones. That’s when feelings of worthlessness and depression start to set in causing long term damage after mere minutes of elation.

Another part of the body that takes a blow here is the nose since cocaine is commonly snorted. This could lead to breathing difficulties, bleeding and eventually, wounded septa. That’s not all, cocaine users can attest to the fact that there’s a spike in the speed of the heartbeat after taking the drug. As such, frequent use could lead to heart problems that are fatal on their own.

In fact, this recreational drug has wrecked more lives than you can imagine and there are a handful more getting sucked in on a daily basis. The momentary high and euphoria it offers come at a deadly price. Apart from heart diseases, sexual problems, seizures, and headaches, users are susceptible to HIV & Hepatitis as well as bowel decay.  In a nutshell, it’s going to be one health problem after another, hence why it is quite a slippery slope.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does rehab cost?
This factor again is based on personal needs. Pricing structures do fluctuate depending on the necessary treatment services, required through rehab. For greater accuracy, get in touch with our team today. Please be aware that some insurance policies can be activated through rehab. This will however depend on your policy, along with your selected drug rehab facility.
What type of drug addictions do you treat?
Most drugs are highly addictive. There are of course a group of drugs which are abused more frequently. However, a large range of drug addictions can be worked through, through rehab. From illegal drugs, usually carrying highly addictive tendencies, to prescription drugs, commonly abused unknowingly, treatment options are available.
What usually causes a drug addiction?
Addiction causations will always vary. However, in today’s world, a large number of diagnoses are based around life stresses, mental health conditions, previous distressing episodes and environments. Factors such as genetics and pre-existing behaviours can also influence drug abuse. With this in mind, it is important that the underlying causation is identified and worked through, helping to advance long-term recovery rates.
How effective is visiting a drug rehab?
Visiting a drug rehab is the most effective route to consider if you’re hoping to recover. Offering everything you need under one roof, while prioritising your health, you’ll have a reliable chance of combatting your drug addiction. It is important to remember that there are no quick fixes when considering addiction recovery. Great effort will be required, along with your determination to progress through rehab. With this mindset and a personalised treatment plan, rehab can be highly effective.
How to overcome cocaine addiction without rehab?
It isn’t always advised to try and overcome a cocaine addiction without medical assistance. The more severe your addiction the more dangerous it can be. You must first stop taking the substance, but before going “cold turkey” seek medical help from a professional such as your GP. Once you have done this, make sure you try and include exercise into your lifestyle as this can boost your mood and help your sleeping pattern. Ensure you are well hydrated and eat well too.
Where to get help for cocaine addiction?
We would always recommend that you consult with your GP first, but for some people this can be a difficult experience. If this is the case then you can consult with a local drug treatment service. Typically your GP will find a solution for you with the initial consultation and will often refer you to the local drug treatment service, but the Talk to Frank website has a great local drug treatment finder service here.
How long does cocaine stay in your system?
Once you have consumed cocaine, your body will instantly break it down into metabolites. These metabolites remain in your system for a while and can be detected on tests. Cocaine can be detected in your hair for up to 90 days after consumption, but for blood and saliva it can be detected for up to 2 days after taking it. As for urine, cocaine can be detected in your system up to 4 days after taking it.
